Default A carnival...sounds fun to me.

I think a carnival would fit wonderful in the spirit of the GW world. We already got the jester's cap to get in the mood. Makes me think of the carnival place in Baldur's Gate. Throw in some dandies and stuff, masks etc. Gamble away some gold and hop around with some medieval chicks. Also with a mule standing on a platform pooping some gold, item drops...

A carnival would be a wonderful idea.. something like... DRAGON FESTIVAL? I'm pretty sure ANET will try to get more events that are completely fictional (B/c wintersday was based on Christmas). Events like Dragon Festival were great. Gambling, betting on who'd win in the dragon nest, and my favorite.. dragon arena. I'd love to see another event that's like a carnival. Those tokens you get for gambling really made it seem like a carnival too. and... mule pooping out items/golds... o.O

its is a good idea to have carnival but not like dragon festival, those ring games aren't fun at all, ring games were for those who had gold on and alots of time to spend standing in one ring for long long time. Games should be challenging, fun and interesting like something u see at the real carnivals.

I am bumping this thread back up because I had an interesting idea contained to this idea.

The Everlasting Carnival

It’s a fantastic idea if you think about it. Considering it’s the best way to put several interesting aspects of GW together. A-net has constantly put several holidays together, that has been more then superb. They have done many variations of games and other things that simply brought the crowd in.

What would be in this carnival you ask well I compare it to most medieval fantasy carnivals. There would be plenty of games, food, drinks. Several traveling troupes from GW world including some we know, and others we have yet to discover. Tyria could have jesters, and other performers that reflect a type of European flavor. Cantha can offer some Asian theme of mystery, intrigue, and other artists of culture. Elona could carry heavy setting with magical, illusion, and including their own mini bazaar filled with amusing items. I can even see fortune tellers giving players a look ahead with and bards musical verse or too.

Honestly I can see all types of amusements. One thing of interest to these amusements is the type of PvP arenas these could provide. For instance Cantha could have their, own Aquarium, which is located in the sea, duke’ing it out with the monsters of the sea. Tyria could have a Fun House full of mirrors, dead ends, and a labyrinth; which players have to figure out where their enemy is before they lose their mind. Also a Haunted House which could provide some interesting outcomes, for sometimes you don’t know if the enemies is dead or alive. Elona could have a floating lost temple, in which one wrong move could send you plunging to your death.

Maybe even your own acts of amusements where the player could put on their own show. Of course they will use some New PvE skill provided only for carnival reasons; like for instance the Ranger could do some outstanding tricks with their pets. The Mesmer could provide tricks by disappearing & reappearing acts. Finally some rewards to go with for the most impressive display of acts. Also beyond all the rest this would be the perfect place to have a type of real auction of items or set up temporary shops.

Seriously there are many things you could do with this carnival. I know some of my ideas seem pretty ambitious, but I would love to see a reflection on the idea. If anything this place could be an add-on to any new or old campaign. As I look for location, I would think just outside the Battle Isles. Beyond that it’s a great way for people to keep at adding to their lucky and unlucky titles.

Sounds like a good idea. The only thing I would want though is to have it once a month or so. Not permanent. This could make it so they could add more content to it as they see fit.

Thanks guys for your support I really appreciate it (honestly). Just when the thought came to my head, I kept thinking about all those aspects of history and culture (and a few movies and books). It’s just the possibilities to me seem endless. I mean it can be a relaxing get away for some, who just want to enjoy something different.

All the different props you could stick in there for the carnival as well. I was thinking with emotes you have now, they could add some unique props. You can actually get a custom violin when you type: /violin and so on; by winning them at the carnival. Furthermore adding things like juggling emote, where you can switch it out from apples to flaming swords. Speaking of swords there could even be a prize of a singing sword, and random shape shifting potions. I have so many things in my head for this thing it’s ridiculous; I could go on but it would seem a little tedious to you guys.

it still wont get people having conversations in towns, its not part of the anti-social Guild Wars spirit.

I like idea of permanent / monthly carnival. Not only as the money sink, but for socializing etc.

Now here are my ideas:

1) Create special quests to actually get into carnival site.

2) Core Carnival site should be available for players from all three campaings

3) Small quests on different continents would unlock features at carnival site.

4) There should be mini-games, Player cooperative apporaches etc.

5) There should be something class oriented.

Now example:

Quest "Tracking the caravan" -> Caravan was spoted at XXXXXX. Go there and try to find where it gone ? Player goes to selected area and searches for caravan by looking for traces (they should be quite hard to spot). It leads him through 3 or 4 areas (withoud saying "Quest updated" even if he follows the right track). At the end he finds what was left of camp site where the map/message/puzzle/cipher points him to specific location (The caravan site). There he can get some quest (missing pony to unlock ponny rides etc).
After unlocking pony ride he can use tickets/money to have a pony ride anytime he wants. Also lets say that he is Necro player.... he can (by completing another quest) have acces to mini game: There is small Labirynth and lot of corpses in it. Necro player can walk on top of walls and create minions from the corpses. At the same time Warrior player has as minigame getting through labirynth infested with minions. There is a prize in central room and if necro can slow down/kill Warrior within time limit then he got trasure. Otherwise Warrior gets it.

Another games could be Ranger Duck shooting. Elementalist freezing areas of the lake for skating, Assasin throwing knifes or stalking through maze. Other options would be standard 9 circle game, dance festival, 1-to-1 mime contest (like the one in Elona Mission) etc.

As usuall, feel free to flame any of those ideas. If you like it, say it as well.

All of your guy’s/girls opinions are superb. Including some of your ideas MarcinJ13; the quests would provide additional open end gameplay to the player.

You know there is another aspect I thought of to, since most people want more options in customizing their character (or hero NPC’s); I thought it would be great to have a shop, like a barber or a face visual artist. Who can make little changes to your character appearances facial appearance (not drastic). It would go nicely keeping in mind, that some of the best artist comes from all over GW world.

If that was true most people would not come in during these holiday events. So it’s not about just about what I say, it’s about what A-net does if you have a problem with this aspect. They are trying to enjoy themselves, to find more interest in what they are accomplishing. Furthermore it’s not just accomplishing something in trial, but in the idea of that (sarcasm) dreaded (sarcasm) word “fun.” I believe if the options are more open to the player, (in what they call open ended, not linear) they would rather do things that have choices instead of working for it. Two things are on the table with this idea unique gameplay and choices; I rather give humility to what they want to choose rather then pushing work on them (they get enough realism everyday).

I have played some RTS, simulation, strategy, and RPG games that have taught me, when the player wants different, they will go to the next alternative if it’s not available in the first place. The more options you give the player, the more likely chance they will stay. Also on the social effect how many players actually talk to each other, during holiday events compared to “triple drop green weekend.”

Good point Sindex, I do wish I had of thought of it. What you say is true since the arrival of Hero's player interaction has gone way down. I hardly can find groups without at least several of the players arguing over who's Hero is better. Who realy cares not me. All I wish to realy see is something that we as the core player base can get into without having the headache of cookie cutter builds. Personaly I find the Cookie cutter mentality stupid and useless. Having it this way just ruins my limited play time. Sorry for the rant I had to get it off my chest.
A carnival can get players involved with the community once again.
